Jabber English teaches how to read and write in English. While primarily for young children in the early stages of reading or reading readiness, it can also be used by English language learners. Jabber comes with five main screens and several additional games. On each, the written word is associated with a picture and the spoken sound. For Spanish or Chinese speakers there is a button to show a translation.

Jabber includes five stories tied to the vocabulary, with an additional eleven stories in the full version. Every word of the story is a button that may be pressed to hear the sound and see a picture, and the picture can be pressed to show letter buttons. Each of the letter buttons can be pressed to show its sounds in the word.

To encourage and enable writing there is a pattern screen where parts of sentences can be mixed and matched to create numerous sentences. These sentences can be added to a text box to build up a story or letter. The Jabber Freestyle screen allows the learning to select words, form them into sentences, and drag them into a text box enabling them to write. The contents of these text boxes may be emailed. Jabber comes with seven patterns, with an additional thirteen patterns in the full version.

Games like hangman, jumble, unscramble, match and falling words help reinforce word skills in an enjoyable way.

The vocabulary included is based on usage frequency lists such as the Dolch lists. Jabber comes with five lessons of twenty words each. The full version includes fifty lessons for a total of 1000 words.
